If you’re looking to sell your property, you want to do everything you possibly can to make your home eye candy to potential buyers in order to sell it fast and at the price point you are seeking. There are many ways you can increase your home’s curb appeal without putting too much pressure on your schedule or your wallet. Let’s take a look at some of these ideas below.

1. Bring on the charm with welcoming window boxes.

These plant-filled windows boxes will liven up your home exterior in no time flat. If you have a home with a neutral color scheme, you will surely appreciate the statement that window boxes make with their pop of color. If you have a modicum of carpentry skill, you can make your own window box with a simple online tutorial, or you may opt to shop for one amongst the many simple-to-ornate styles and materials (copper, iron, wood, etc.) available.

Window boxes can add interest to your home all four seasons of the year, it’s not just something delegated to the summer months. In order to swap plants in and out easily for the different seasons, it is recommended to choose a window box style that holds potted plants.

2. A mailbox can add personality to your property.

It no longer needs to be a foreboding depressing place where you are confronted with bills. Your mailbox is a highly visible part of your property, so why not dress it up a little? The area surrounding your mailbox is a great place to showcase a beautiful flowering garden. You may even want to consider wrapping netting over your mailbox post and training a vine up it. Select plants that won’t be bee-laden (for your mailman’s safety) and try to avoid plants that will block views as you enter/exit your driveway.

3. Container plantings are great.

This is an easy way to make your homescape more inviting and cheerful. They can lend visual appeal to your property whether they are strategically interspersed along the front path to your home or situated on your porch. How do you make your containers stand out? To maximize curb appeal with your containers, variety is key. Be sure to utilize containers of all shapes, sizes and textures.

For well-rounded and professional looking containers, fill each container with “thriller, spiller, filler“ plants to pack a visual punch. Be sure to exercise vigilance over your container plantings – water, fertilize, deadhead, prune – do whatever is needed to keep them looking nice and healthy.

4. Add an element of fun and whimsy.

Incorporate weather resistant outdoor décor into your landscape. The artwork can add beauty, but function as well. Consider some of these striking, stunning and colorful options: Decorative birdbaths, bird feeders, weather vanes, rain chains, fountains, wind spinners, metal cutouts and natural sculptures made of stone or wood, just to name a few.

5. Don’t forget that shed.

Being a prospective home buyer myself, I can vouch for this last curb-appeal inducing idea, which is to add a garden shed to your property. This option not only increases your property value and improves the overall appearance, but is a great assurance to the buyer that there will be a good spot to tuck away their gardening tools, potting soil, garden hoses and other associated clutter. There are many pre-fab garden shed styles available to meet every budget.
