This year, upon the arrival of spring, my flower and vegetable gardens required a lot of elbow grease to get whipped into shape. They were severely overgrown with hip-high invasive weeds. My tiller broke (1970’s era tillers don’t last forever – go figure), so I cultivated the veggie garden manually. And, upon sighting some critters in the area, I erected a chicken wire fence around the perimeter of the veggie garden. This prep, needless to say, was a lot of work and by the time I finally got my vegetable plants in the ground I was beat and badly sunburned (don’t ever neglect the sunscreen, folks). But, and I may be extremely biased by saying this, my garden was a horticultural feat to marvel.
When you have a thing of horticultural beauty that you have invested so much effort in, you really need to have a place within view where you can relax and take it all in, much like a bench in front of a masterpiece in an art gallery. Or even just a place to rest your laurels after doing the necessary garden upkeep as the season progresses. As I pondered my outdoor furniture options, I received an invitation from Viesso to review a Bistro set featuring a 30″ round table and two chairs created by Fermob, a world renowned French designer and manufacturer of colorful outdoor furniture. More than likely you have experienced Fermob first-hand, as they have many installations in restaurants, hotels, museums, universities, public spaces and parks throughout the United States.
This bistro set was easy to set up, as there was no assembly required. Simply unfold the metal table and chairs after extracting them from their respective boxes. If you don’t have a lot of space, you will love the folding aspect for easy and efficient portability and storage. Another attractive option is the ease of cleaning. A wet wipe with clean water followed by a dry wipe is usually all that’s necessary.
If you’re looking to inject some color into the garden, then Fermob is a good choice for you since it prides itself on being the only outdoor furniture brand to offer a 24-color palette. Color choices featuring fanciful names such as paprika, aubergine, verbena and fuchsia ensure that your furniture set will pop with as much vibrancy and flair as the flowers in your garden. Turquoise (pictured) was my color of choice. Color, however, may not be as important to you as comfort. And let’s just say you can put a check in that box. I was able to relax seated at the bistro for extended periods of time without discomfort.
One thing I treasure about this Fermob bistro set is that while it has a classic timeless quality about it, it also exudes a bold modern appeal. The chairs produced today, for example, are pretty much replicas of the ones designed in 1889. Yet, they can still be seamlessly integrated into the midst of urban landscapes such as Times Square, New York City. But will the furniture’s durability stand the test of time as its designs have? Fermob has taken every measure to ensure it will. Their furniture undergoes a proprietary process that creates a highly durable fade-resistant finish via stages of rust-proofing and powder-coating. Proper care and maintenance will, of course, help ensure your furniture’s longevity.
The bistro set is just one of many in an extensive line of Fermob products that Viesso offers. There are many different configurations of Fermob tables, benches, chairs and accessories available so you can be sure to find the right style fit for you!
